Ten maps was my limit. After that had got a rythm and there just aren't enough strategic options to keep me playing. I first played this back in the day as Shareware and as a youth I was unable to afford the full version(I believe it was $20USD). I was ecstatic to see it on the Steam Store. It is still just as enjoyable today as it was back then. It is a solid strategy game and can get rather difficult depending on the AI level you select. There is tons of different map to choose from and a great time killer. Well worth the purchase!. A quick, simple, and fun strategy game. Requires a lot of thought but doesn't require much learning at all. Simpler than chess, more interesting than checkers.. The regular game is better than the steam version.. When I brought this I thought I was going to praise it. No. This is a modern version of an old game but has lost most of its charm. I know this for sure because I still have one of the older versions and play it all the time. I tend to play it at absent moments almost like a nasty habit have tens of thousands of hours of play on it. Literally.No this version is awful. The sounds aren’t ‘improved’ and the visuals while polished have become a polished 'turd'. The options are just seriously lacking (it is a ported phone game). For instance there is no option for scaling or even for windowed mode. Still no volume control. Still has the very irritating surrender feature which it slips to you just when you’re not expecting it. (messes up game scoring)None of this is the real problem though, the top level Master level mode no longer works for most islands, its as simple as that. The programmer could not increase the AI intelligence any higher and so instead turned up the aggression to the point where it goes from being a hard fight to an impossible one. Even when you do win it is now a matter of real luck and a very hard long slog. This wouldn’t be so bad but it has now become every game (where you can win at all) which takes all the pleasure out of it. You have to like self torture to play this game but this new version is just taking it too far.
